Rio Grande del Norte National Monument is a short drive from our Forest Service campground, so it only made sense to check it out. We had a fun day exploring and hiking.

We're so happy to be back in the tall pine/fur trees and mountains camping at 7,900' elevation about seven and a half miles west of Red River, NM.
We're on a roll! Our third Harvest Hosts in as many days. This time we're at La Viña, the oldest winery in New Mexico, located along the Don Juan Oñate trail in La Union.
Well, we made it to St Clair in Deming, NM – another Harvest Hosts, stop. This is our third year to visit and spend the night at this winery — one of our faves.
A nice state park for a couple of day layover. We got a great site overlooking Lea Lake.
Once again, we found ourselves at a campground we enjoyed last spring. Oliver Lee is nicely tucked in at the base of the Sacramento Mountains in the Chihuahuan Desert.
Leasburg Dam State Park: Site #31 & #6, these sites have water & electric, dump station nearby, 29 sites, 4,200 foot elevation. February 19th - 25th.
Overall Experience:
We arrived at Leasburg with a three-day reservation because last spring, we couldn't get in without a reservation (we don't like making reservations). We find plenty to do in the area, so we scored one of few first come/first serve sites with water & electricity to extend our stay.

We returned to a state park we thoroughly enjoyed last spring & were greeted with a sea of little yellow flowers—one of the few state parks where rockhounds can collect rocks.
This State Park is the site where Francisco "Pancho" Villa's Mexican revolutionary attacked Columbus, NM, and the historic Camp Furlong on March 9, 1916.

"We had a short visit at Silver City so we could catch the New Mexico Brewer’s Festival. Fun! Nice clean, spacious RV park that’s located a couple of miles from downtown."
A lot of cool rock formations can be found in this MN State Park. There’s the option to camp nestled among the rock, or as in our case, camp in a site with hookups.

Harvest Host winery with friendly folks. They offered us to continue to use their beautifully landscaped patio after business hours. We took them up on the offer.

Unusual NM State Park in the sense that they allow visitors to collect rocks they find. During our visit, we noticed that the park hosts were accommodating and user-friendly.
"Our 1st campground out of Texas on this trip. Yay! There's an excellent hiking trail from the State Park. An interesting day trip from this park is White Sands National Monument."
On a short walk, we saw this pond with beaver lodge on Coyote Creek. With today's drive, we're moving along at a snail's pace, but that's okay. Washington seems mighty far away.
We scored with a sweet site in Villanueva State Park, sitting on a bluff, overlooking the Pecos River. Getting our travel trailer into the site was extremely challenging. Perhaps a tad more difficult than the one we got into at Yellowstone last year.
A natural spring once filled this pond, but now because of the increased number of large dairy farms in the area, the pond needs water pumped to keep it filled.
